Thanks to Hollywood's baby boom, maternity wear is as fresh and stylish as regular brands. And now, Vancouver moms-to-be can look every bit as chic as the celebrities! Like many mom entrepreneurs, shop owner Melissa Lynne came up with the idea for her business when she became pregnant with her first child. She made it her mission to make sure that other moms-to-be didn’t have to face the same frustration as she did. Featured Mom Business: Apples 'N Oranges

The urbanmoms.ca community is all about sharing stories - and the urbanmoms.ca Marketplace is where where we share the amazing stories of moms in business. This week, we bring you the story of Vicky and Lara, founders of Apples 'N Oranges. This story is told by Vicky.

My friend Lara and I both gave birth to baby boys last fall. Born six weeks apart, weighing exactly the same weight - 7lbs 1oz, you'd think we were in for similar rides.  And yet, they couldn't be more different. As we've watched them grow these past months, there's no comparing them; they are as different as apples and oranges. That’s the inspiration behind a new business venture.

Being new moms opened our eyes to a whole world of baby products we never knew (nor had a reason to know) existed. It didn’t take long for us to realize that we just didn’t want to dress our boys in the typical ‘branded’ clothing. We were inspired by the limited selection of clothing options, and by the inability to find funky apparel and accessories for our babies on Canadian online Web sites. This is how our new online store Apples’N’Oranges was born.  Being avid bloggers, we have decided to start a blog to capture the journey of two moms becoming entrepreneurs.
