Featured Mom Business: Vie Maternity Boutique

Logo_2007_2 Thanks to Hollywood's baby boom, maternity wear is as fresh and stylish as regular brands. And now, Vancouver moms-to-be can look every bit as chic as the celebrities! Vie carries a variety of designer maternity clothes from New York, Los Angeles and around the globe. Many of the labels are exclusive to Vie and won’t be found anywhere else in Vancouver.

Dsc00670 Like many mom entrepreneurs, shop owner Melissa Lynne came up with the idea for her business when she became pregnant with her first child. She was frustrated with the out of date and low quality maternity wear that existed in Vancouver and had too many questions about her changing body to shop online. She made it her mission to make sure that other moms-to-be didn’t have to face the same frustration as she did. So, after her son Hiro was born, Melissa traveled to Los Angeles and New York in search of high quality, fashionable maternity wear and opened her boutique. Nestled among Yaletown’s trendy shops, Vie Maternity Boutique meets the demands of the fashion savvy, pregnant Vancouverite.

Featured Mom Business: Daisy Blue

Daisyblue Daisy Blue is an online children’s clothing boutique that specializes in the sale of quality used children’s and maternity clothing. Servicing all of North America, Daisy Blue offers clothing and accessories for children ranging from newborn to size 6 and takes pride in the quality of clothing offered on the site.

Daisy Blue was established by Ronda MacKinnon and Kelli Catana, two sisters who combined their love for shopping and their creativity to create a business that would allow them both to work from home while raising their children. Tired of shopping with kids in tow and leafing through racks and racks of clothes to find something nice for their children, they decided to start their own company that would cater to the needs of the busy parent.  With six children between them, Ronda and Kelli consider themselves to be experts in children’s clothing and are keenly aware of what their customers are looking for.

Now you can shop for great clothes at even better prices at anytime from anywhere. New items are added weekly, so make sure you check back often! Daisy Blue  - Always something new to you!

Featured Mom Business: Apples 'N Oranges

The urbanmoms.ca community is all about sharing stories - and the urbanmoms.ca Marketplace is where where we share the amazing stories of moms in business. This week, we bring you the story of Vicky and Lara, founders of Apples 'N Oranges. This story is told by Vicky.

Img_017 My friend Lara and I both gave birth to baby boys last fall. Born six weeks apart, weighing exactly the same weight - 7lbs 1oz, you'd think we were in for similar rides.  And yet, they couldn't be more different. As we've watched them grow these past months, there's no comparing them; they are as different as apples and oranges. That’s the inspiration behind a new business venture.

Ano_colour_logo Being new moms opened our eyes to a whole world of baby products we never knew (nor had a reason to know) existed. It didn’t take long for us to realize that we just didn’t want to dress our boys in the typical ‘branded’ clothing. We were inspired by the limited selection of clothing options, and by the inability to find funky apparel and accessories for our babies on Canadian online Web sites. This is how our new online store Apples’N’Oranges was born.  Being avid bloggers, we have decided to start a blog to capture the journey of two moms becoming entrepreneurs.
